File Submission Checklist

Packaging

To collect all items pertaining to a file use the following function in each software package:

• InDesign: File → Package - follow instructions, click boxes to include fonts and links

• Quark: File → Collect for Output - follow instructions, click all 6 boxes in COLLECT box

• Pagemaker: Utilities → Plug-Ins → Save for Service Provider → Preflight Pub (if red X’s appear click on corresponding tab and correct issues with file) if green √'s appear click package button, check box that says include fonts

• Publisher: File → Pack and Go → Take to a Commercial Printing Service - follow instructions, click all three boxes under Include Fonts and Graphics

When finished your document will be saved correctly with a fonts folder, links folder and a report for job submission.

• Provide a hard copy or PDF of file to make sure the files we receive have correct graphics and fonts.

Pictures and Vector Art

• Logos reproduce best when created in vector based programs, i.e. Freehand, Illustrator. Placing or pasting a tif or jpg in one of these programs and saving does not make it vector art. Create logos in one of these programs.

• Create outlines for text with vector art or supply fonts. If fonts are used in any programs besides the packaging programs listed above they will also need to be provided.

• Scan pictures to size at a minimum of 300 dpi. Pictures that will have to be enlarged that are 300 dpi or less will lose quality.

• Pictures should be converted from RGB to CMYK.

• Do not resample a low-res image in Photoshop. It still will be low-res just a bigger file size.

Bleed

• If image goes to the edge of page a bleed is required. As jobs are created extend bleed of at least an 1/8 inch on all outside edges.

• When creating pdf with bleeds make sure final size includes bleeds, preferably without crop marks.

PDFs

To collect all items pertaining to a file use the following function in each software package:

• InDesign: File → Export - Select Format: [Adobe PDF] → Save. When dialog box comes up select [PDF/X-1a:2001], Compatibility: Acrobat 5 → Export

• Quark: File → Export → Layout as PDF... - Select PDF Style: [Default PDf Output Style] → Save.

• Adobe Illustrator: *Convert all fonts to outlines* File → Save As - Format: [Adobe PDF (pdf)] → Save. When dialog box comes up select [PDF/X-1a:2001], Compatibility: Acrobat 5 → Export
